Onto The Next Chapter | Travel Day ● Medellín, Colombia

Our Beautiful View in Bogotá (2017-08-10)

Today, we flew out of Bogotá to Medellín (about 30-40 minutes flight) with VivaColombia. I had purchased the tickets in advance ($63 for 2 of us), not including our 2 checked baggage and boarding pass which came out to be about $60. Note: If you can, print out our boarding passes at your hotel or hostel because they charge you to print it at the airport and you need a physical copy of the pass (can't be on your phone).

We arrived in Medellín at 16:30 and prior to arriving, I had arranged a private driver to pick us up (he was recommended by our friends who just moved to Colombia). He's a super nice guy and speaks perfect English! He gave us some tips and suggestions on where to go and what to do.
If you need someone to pick you up from the airport in Medellín, let me know and I can give you his contact.

It took about an hour to an hour and a half to get to the place we are staying at. On our way up and down the mountain, we passed by acres and acres of ranch land. Guillermo told us that they're all reserved and big companies brought out the land to build more houses, apartment complexes, shopping centers, etc.

 New Building Coming Soon!

I'm glad we came to Medellín at this time, because in a few months to a year from now, it will look really different. We heard they are planning on building a tunnel to the airport from the main city area for the commute to be cut in half when going to the airport.
It is a good thing that they are building so much here, but it's sad to see all the beautiful greenery go away. But it'll be interesting to see what Medellín will look like in a few years.

Luckily, we got connections from my sister with her friend's parents, who recently just moved to Colombia about a week ago. It was our first time meeting them and they have been so hospitable.
Their place is beautiful and spacious! We relaxed and talked for a bit, then we decided to go have some dinner. They live really close by to the street where all the gringos live. (Gringos are what they call foreigners, typically Americans who come to their country) That street was very lively and had hostels, restaurants, cafes and bar all lined up and very well lit. There are a lot of hostels on that street and they looked like hotels. We ended up eating at a local Indian restaurant called Naan. It wasn't too bad for Indian food in Colombia.

It's only been a few hours here in Medellín and we are already lovin' it! The air is fresher here than in Bogotá and it's easier to breathe. I'm glad we made a stop here during our trip.
We have a long weekend ahead of us! It'll be exciting!

Until next time...

~ Lynna
