The Adventure Begins | Museum Day ● Bogotá, Colombia

It's been a great few days here in Bogotá!

On Friday, August 4th, we woke up to an overcast day & slightly sprinkling. We were thinking of going to visit Monserrate today, but since the weather was overcasted, we decided to save it for another day. Instead, it seemed like the perfect day to visit museums around the area.

First thing in the morning, I get to look forward to this:

Breakfast Made by Tim 😍

We headed out around 12pm to the bus station. Tim did most of the navigation of which bus we need to get on to go to the Museo del Oro. But getting to the bus station was pretty easy and all you need is to buy one of their bus cards (they're rechargeable for multiple uses).

We got to the Museo del Oro (Gold Museum) and it was $4.000 per ticket. We also got the audio tour, which was $8.000 (There were English captions, so honestly the audio tour was something we didn't really need). The museum was nice. If you're a huge history fanatic, you'll love it! There were some very interesting pieces.

We walked through Bolívar Square. There was some construction going on to some of the buildings. We took a few photos/videos in the middle, where a family of three actually approached us and asked to take a photo with us! We forgot to ask for a photo with them too, but it was quite funny. As we were walking, we noticed that there weren't a lot of Asian people here, so it was like we were local celebrities. 😂 In the first photo below, you can see the father in that family that asked us for a photo on the right 😁

Pigeons Everywhere!!

We continued walking through the city and found one of their famous cathedrals, Iglesia del Carmen (El Carmen Church). The design inside and out is amazing and unique.

We decided to stop for lunch at a nearby restaurant, Ruta 90. It was a nice little restaurant/cafe just down the street from the church. The owners were really nice and helped with recommendations.

I forgot to take a photo or write down what we ordered, because we had no idea. The food was okay...now that I think of it, it's very Westernized and maybe that's why the waitress recommended it to us. We still didn't get a sim card for the phone, so the entire time we have been relying on any place that we can use WiFi.

After lunch, we headed back to the main square and in search of the next museum, Museo Nacional. It is the biggest and oldest museum in Colombia. Tickets are $4.000 per adult.

This quote below was the first thing you see when you enter into the exhibitions.

"An education from the cradle to the inconsistent and reflective tomb, that inspires us a new way of thinking and encourages us to discover who we are in a society that loves itself more..."
- Gabriel García Márquez, 1994.

It's only been a few days in this city and so far, we are enjoying our time here in Bogotá!

Until next time...

~ Lynna
