The Adventure Begins | Day 1 - Bogotá, Colombia
Hello friends,
It's been awhile since I've written on this blog. I started as a way for me to start doing more with my life than just the normal work grind. But of course, work got the best of me and with only a few months left in America, I had to keep my focus on getting things done before I leave.
I mentioned to a few people that I would be starting a blog, more so as a journal for myself to remind me of my trip. Many friends have said that they are envious of us and that we are so lucky to have this opportunity, so we want to make sure that we make the most of the time we have out here as possible. We won't disappoint you.
As you some of you know, Tim and I decided that we wanted to go on an extended trip together to South America last December. We booked our flights and gave our jobs our notice that we will be quitting. This was a huge step for me personally, because I've always been the type of person who needed to have security and certainty of what my future will be like. But after our trip last year to Southeast Asia and the support of Tim, I decided that it's time for me to step away from my normal routine and do something different; it was time for me to do something for ME. It's a bittersweet feeling for me to leave my work after 4 years, but I feel like I've made the right decision and I am excited for what's to come!
We are currently in Bogotá, Colombia as the start of our 4-month trip around South America. We just landed this morning and it was already quite an adventure. We reached customs, & realized that there was no way we'd survive out here without the basis knowledge of Spanish.
So...first goal for this trip: MASTER THE LANGUAGE (well, at least enough to carry a conversation and understand what others are saying to us). Tim is already more fluent in Spanish than I am, so thank God for him!!
Most of our day, we spent in the apartment. It was an exhausting trip here so we tried to keep awake but it was really hard. Tim went to the supermarket and brought some food home, since we are staying in an Airbnb. (It's a really nice place.)
After that, we rested again and left to walk around. We stopped at Bogotá Beer Company. We managed to order some cervezas and asked the waiter, "que es bueno?" and he pointed out something and "Sí!". YAY we ordered food for the first time!!
Now we are back in the apartment and are getting ready to study Español!
That is the end of Day 1 in Bogotá. We have a long day ahead of us...and I'm going to do my best to keep up with this daily journal. So wish me luck!!

Until next time...
